Socks

I've been knitting socks for Christmas. Yarn is relatively cheap, and the fact that they are handmade makes socks a cool gift. The only issues are time and skill. One might argue I have time. I knit while watching movies with friends, on lunch breaks at work, whenever my hands aren't doing something else. But it takes conscious effort and patience to do this. Often I have to re-work a tricky section, perhaps as much as four times before I am satisfied that the result is high quality.
Whether or not I have the skill required is a question for the recipients to answer, I think.

These socks have not been "blocked", a steam-pressing technique that molds the wool yarn into a regular sock-shape. All the wrinkles and distortions will turn into a neat, lovely sock.

I intend to make a bunch of socks and block them all in one go, before I wrap and send them as gifts.

Here are a few examples of finished socks.
